THE MAN BEHIND THE FOOD
A Life Devoted to Food
Chef Mike Thompson has been cooking since 1988 and has never stopped. Trained at the prestigious Johnson & Wales University at Vail, he graduated with the Director's Distinguished Graduate Award — a testament to his dedication and talent from the very beginning.
After culinary school, Chef Mike honed his skills in some of the finest kitchens in the country before returning to his roots in New Orleans, where the bold, soulful flavors of Cajun and Creole cuisine became his signature.
In 2001, he opened Chef du Jour in the New Orleans area, building a loyal following for his inventive menus and warm hospitality.

THE JOURNEY
From Katrina to Austin
In 2005, Hurricane Katrina changed everything. Like so many New Orleanians, Chef Mike was displaced from the city he loved. But he carried the flavors and spirit of New Orleans with him wherever he went.
After the storm, Chef Mike spent time working with Whole Foods Market, further expanding his culinary repertoire and deepening his commitment to quality, fresh ingredients.
In 2011, Chef Mike launched NOLA Kitchen in Austin, TX — bringing the vibrant flavors of New Orleans to the Texas capital. What started as a way to share his heritage became Austin's go-to private chef service.
Today, NOLA Kitchen serves families, corporations, and event hosts across the greater Austin area with the same passion, warmth, and bold flavors that have defined Chef Mike's career for over three decades.
